U.S. Customs and Border Protection has posted an updated notice on the Import Safety Priority Trade Issue (PTI). CBP first designated Import Safety as a PTI in 2008 and CBP sources have confirmed that it continues to be a PTI in 2009.
On May 12, 2009, CBP will be hosting an ACE Seminar in Chicago, IL to educate the international trade community on the benefits of ACE and its impact to their business operations. CBP speakers will discuss Periodic Monthly Statement, manifest and entry filing. Representatives from the ACE Account Service Desk will provide a demonstration on how to use ACE reports and will provide tips for creating customized reports. The afternoon session will focus on using the ACE reports tool. House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Waxman (D) and Energy and Environment Subcommittee Chairman Markey (D) have issued a notice announcing that they will be holding four days of hearings on the discussion draft of "The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009" (ACES). The hearings will examine the views of the Administration and a broad range of stakeholders on the discussion draft.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a notice announcing that the first meeting of the eleventh term of Departmental Advisory Committee on Commercial Operations of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Related Homeland Security Functions (COAC)will be held on May 6, 2009 in Washington, DC.
CBP has posted April 15, 2009 versions of five "pending release" editions of existing Importer Security Filing transaction sets. According to CBP sources, these pending transaction sets will become effective no sooner than May 18, 2009. CBP will notify the trade approximately one to two weeks in advance via a CSMS message when a definitive date is determined. The transaction sets are:
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has posted a document providing instructions for fling entry summaries in the Automated Commercial Environment. CBP has also posted an ACE entry summary business rules and process document for the trade.
According to CBP sources, ESAR A2.2 (Initial Entry Summary Types) was deployed on April 12, 2009 as scheduled. Sources add that CBP has been able to successfully process several ACE entry summaries. (CBP was expected to deploy ESAR A2.2 ACE entry summary filing capabilities for those who volunteered to submit such entry summaries, first at the Port of Buffalo and then to the other ports included in the initial stage of A2.2's deployment. Certain portal account changes for all ACE accounts were also scheduled to occur nationwide on April 12th.) CBP has posted April 7, 2009 versions of the following previously posted ACE Customs Automated Manifest Interface Requirements (CAMIR)-Air documents: Appendix A - Codes and the Message Line Identifiers chapter. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a CSMS message reminding the trade of the projected date of April 12, 2009 for the implementation for two rules in the Batch & Block Control Chapter of the ACE ABI CATAIR1 that will need to be adhered to for all messages for six ABI application identifiers, or fatal errors will result.
