Congresswoman Tenney Moves to Defund NPR
Washington, DC—Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today introduced the Defund NPR Act of 2024 to prohibit federal funding to the National Public Radio (NPR) due to the platform's overwhelming partisan bias.
Tenney's bill follows the suspension of NPR editor and self-described liberal Uri Berliner, after Berliner revealed the overt levels of partisanship that have taken over the company's newsroom. According to Berliner, NPR reporters and editors openly made editorial decisions to tear down President Trump and prop up the Biden campaigns. In one instance, reporters ignored the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, claiming that the story could help re-elect Trump. Additionally, the organizations new CEO Katherine Maher has made public, partisan statements including “Donald Trump is a racist,” and condoning rioters during BLM protests. Americans’ hard earned taxpayer dollars should not be funding a partisan left-wing organization mascaraing as a reliable news source.
"American taxpayers should not be forced to fund NPR, which has become a partisan propaganda machine," said Congresswoman Tenney. "My legislation, the Defund NPR Act of 2024, ensures no federal funding is used to perpetuate the media bias that has taken over NPR. As a former newspaper owner and publisher, I understand the importance of non-partisan, balanced media coverage, and have seen first-hand the left-wing bias in our news media. These disturbing reports out of NPR confirm what many have known for a long time: NPR is using American taxpayer dollars to manipulate the news and lie to the American people on behalf of a pollical agenda. It’s past time the American people stop footing the bill for NPR, and the partisan, left-wing activists that control it."
