Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

CBP New York Releases Average CES Exam Times for Q3

CBP New York/Newark released statistics in a pipeline notice showing the "cycle time measurement" of Centralized Examination Stations from April through June. The cycle times refer to the time from ocean container arrival, as transmitted via the Automated Commercial Environment, through final examination completion release date.

CBP Posts Draft ACE Ocean Export Manifest FAQs

CBP posted a draft version of some frequently asked questions regarding ocean export manifests in the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). "The document represents a series of questions received from Ocean Export stakeholders," said CBP. "Where possible, CBP has provided a preliminary response to the various questions." The FAQs largely focus on technical issues. The agency stressed that the FAQs are a draft document and not an official regulatory document. "This document is a working vehicle for exchange of information between CBP and ocean industry stake holders during the development phases of the [Automated Export System] Export Manifest," it said. "At a future time, CBP may incorporate all or part of this document into an official Export Manifest FAQ document. Trade groups will be notified via CSMS of any such official publication; meantime this document is an evolving work in progress."

CBP Adds Breakdown of MPF, HMF in ACE

CBP updated the Automated Commercial Environment to provide users breakdowns of merchandise processing fees (MPF), harbor maintenance fees (HMF) and other fees, the agency said. "ACE users may now modify any standard report from the Entry Summary Sub-Folder of ACE Reports and add the new data objects (to include itemized amounts of MPF, HMF and Other Fees) reported at the detail line level of an ACE entry summary," said CBP. "The three new data elements are classified as measures, which may be used in calculations and are identified by a gold ruler icon inside the universe outline panel."
