Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

New CBP Fact Sheet Details Broker Permit Reporting Capabilities in ACE

CBP released a new fact sheet June 13 detailing how customs brokers can update and submit information using Modernized ACE. The fact sheet, "Broker Permit Reporting Capabilities in Modernized ACE," goes over the required reporting needed in the ACE portal, the optional reporting and viewing that can be done in the ACE portal, and additional resources for brokers.

Suspension of Section 232 Duties on Steel Articles From Ukraine Extended Another Year

The suspension of Section 232 duties on steel articles from Ukraine has been extended for another year and now includes steel from the EU melted and poured in Ukraine, CBP said as part of its guidance on June 5. The suspension is now set to expire on June 1, 2024. Importers must report the certificate of origin for Ukrainian steel or steel articles into the CBP’s Document Imaging System (DIS), the announcement said. If steel or steel deratives are not accompanied by certificates of origin from Ukraine, those items will be subject to the "25 percent ad valorem duty," the guidance said. Importers also must submit the steel mill certificate required by 19 CFR 141.89, the guidance said. The suspension of Section 232 duties is available in the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE), the guidance said. The extension of the suspension was announced on May 31. The suspension was first announced on May 27, 2022, (see 2205310061).

.FDA's estimate of the work required to file an entry "does not begin to account for the work required to file an FDA import entry," the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America said in comments on an FDA notice that sought input on the burden of its import entry process.

APHIS Releases Cut Flower Name Validation List for 'Core' PGA Message Set

USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has posted a Cut Flower Name Validation List to its website for filers to verify spellings in the APHIS core partner government agency (PGA) message set. The list provides genus, species and subspecies names along with corresponding common names to be used in the ACE data elements, APHIS said in a May 30 news release. The list also provides acceptable spellings for listed names and the corresponding Integrated Taxonomic Information Systems (ITIS) Taxonomic Serial Number (TSN) and APHIS ID (APID) number, APHIS said. Software developers can download and integrate the PG10 category AP0800 cut flowers into the Automated Broker Interface software, which will help create a single standardized submission list for importers of cut flowers, the agency said.
