The Census Bureau on Oct. 21 updated one port of unlading code name and added multiple ports of unlading codes to the Automated Export System. It updated the code name for the port in Whonnock, British Columbia, and added new codes for ports in Colombia, India, Vietnam and Indonesia.

The Bureau of Industry and Security will soon remove Sandvine Inc., a Canada-headquartered technology software company, from the Entity List after BIS said it took “significant steps” to improve its compliance controls and stop its technology from being used for human rights breaches.

The U.S. last week expanded an Iran-related sanctions authority to target the country’s petroleum and petrochemical sectors and designated a host of entities and vessels that it said have shipped or traded Iranian oil products.

Former Mexican Ambassador to the U.S. Martha Bárcena said that she has been told that the U.S. will not comply with the panel ruling that said that rollup was understood to be part of the automotive rule of origin (see 2403070067), and she said that is undermining USMCA. She said that's because both the Republicans and the Democrats are fighting for the political support of the United Autoworkers and Teamsters. The State Department approved possible military sales to India, Romania and Italy, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Oct. 7. The sale to India includes $175 million worth of “MK 54 MOD 0 Lightweight Torpedoes and related equipment,” and a majority of the torpedo’s hardware will be bought from U.S. Navy stock. The sale to Romania includes $110 million worth of “Sentinel Radar Systems” and related equipment, and the principal contractor will be RTX Corp. The sale to Italy includes a $680 million “Electronic Attack Mission System” and related equipment, and the principal contractor will be BAE Systems.

As EU member states prepare to vote this week on new tariffs for Chinese electric vehicles, a German trade official and auto industry representative said they believe the EU and China can still reach a “political” agreement to work through their issues and avoid the punitive duties, which they say would harm EU consumers and European car manufacturers that have factories in China.
