A union request that the government impose a fee on Chinese-made vessels docking at U.S. ports via a Section 301 action confronting subsidization in China's shipbuilding sector (see 2404170029) was mentioned favorably by Democrats and Republicans at a House Select Committee on China hearing that covered Chinese efforts in that sector, semiconductors and drones.
Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo told the House Energy and Commerce Committee that the content of a rule on connected vehicles made by Chinese companies hasn't been decided yet, but she said the more she learns about the ability for surveillance by advanced cars, the more it scares her.

On July 1, the Commerce Department will begin reconducting the sunset reviews on stilbenic optical brightening agents (OBAs) from Taiwan and China, after the Court of International Trade on May 28 found that the regulatory provision upon which Commerce relied to revoke the antidumping duty orders on OBAs from the two countries (see 2212280023) violated the Tariff Act.

CBP announced a new Enforce and Protect Act investigation, saying it has reasonable suspicion that Global Natural Ingredients evaded the antidumping and countervailing duty orders on xanthan gum from China and it has enacted interim measures against the importer.
The Commerce Department is amending the final results of the countervailing duty administrative review on crystalline silicon photovoltaic products from China (C-570-011), covering the period Jan. 1, 2021, through Dec. 31, 2021, based on the March 21, 2024, final decision in a court case challenging those final results. Commerce calculated a revised CVD rate for the only company under review, Trina Solar (Changzhou) Science & Technology Co., Ltd. and its cross-owned affiliates, of 9.02%, down from 13.21% in the original final results (see 2309120035). That new rate is applicable March 31, 2024, and the revised cash deposit rate is also effective on that date.
The Commerce Department has published the final results of its countervailing duty administrative review on certain corrosion inhibitors from China (C-570-123). These final results will be used to set final assessments of CVD on importers for entries Jan. 1, 2022, through Dec. 31, 2022.
