Trinity Blasts NRB, Endorses Elimination of TV Ownership Cap

Trinity Broadcasting, the U.S.’s largest religious broadcaster, pushed back in an ex parte filing Wednesday on the National Religious Broadcasters’ opposition to eliminating the national TV ownership cap. “Although NRB never commented on the national television ownership cap during the more than eight years this docket has been open, [it] is positioning itself as the voice of Christian broadcasters in filings it has submitted in other proceedings,” Trinity said. NRB didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Trinity pointed out that Newsmax, a vocal opponent of lifting the cap, is an NRB member. “Trinity was surprised to learn that NRB is taking the same position as the pay TV industry,” the filing said. “Perhaps the source of NRB’s puzzling position is a vocal minority of NRB members, or even just a lone voice.” Repealing the cap “would not diminish Christian broadcasting. It would strengthen it -- by ensuring that faith-based broadcasters have a fair opportunity to compete, innovate, and continue delivering Christian voices freely and openly on America’s public airwaves,” Trinity said.
