USTR Greer: US Seeks Stability in China Relationship

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, speaking at a business event Dec. 4, said that the U.S. doesn't want to confront China in concert with allies right now.

Bloomberg reported he said: "A lot of allies are interested in taking coordinated action, but the decision right now is we want to have stability in this relationship."

He said that the U.S. wants to make sure China is buying American planes, chemicals, medical devices and agricultural commodities. "We can buy things from them that are not sensitive," he said, and argued the trade deficit is falling.

Greer's comments came one day after the Financial Times reported the Trump administration halted plans to sanction a Chinese spy agency and planned to refrain from imposing “major new export controls” on China to avoid disrupting the trade truce reached between the two sides in South Korea earlier this year (see 2512040021).
