White House Targets CBS, CNN, MS Now With 'Media Bias' Page

The White House has created a webpage that it said tracks media bias, with a leaderboard and a “Hall of Shame” that includes CBS News, CNN and MSNBC, although the latter network rebranded as MS Now in October. The page “catalogs the avalanche of lies, deliberate distortions, and manufactured hoaxes churned out by activist ‘journalists’ and their failing outlets,” the White House said in a release Monday.

CBS is named as a “Media Offender of the Week” over coverage of President Donald Trump’s response to a video from Democratic lawmakers on the laws regarding illegal orders. "The media misrepresented President Trump’s call for Members of Congress to be held accountable for inciting sedition by saying that he called for their ‘execution,’” the website says.

“SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” Trump wrote Nov. 20 on Truth Social in a series of posts condemning the video.

The media bias website also allows users to search for reporters who have written posts targeted by the White House, lists offending articles by bias category, and highlights “repeat offenders” such as The Washington Post, CNN and The New York Times. “Fully sortable and routinely updated, it ensures no hoax, no anonymously 'sourced' fan fiction, and no partisan smear gets memory-holed again,” the White House release said.

Seth Stern, the Freedom of the Press Foundation's director of advocacy, said in an emailed statement that there's an obvious conflict in the White House deciding what media is biased. “If Trump thinks the media is getting stories wrong or being unfair to him he should release the public records, correspondence and legal memoranda that prove it instead of wasting time and taxpayer money on silly websites,” Stern said. “He has made it extremely clear that his beef is not with media bias but with journalists not flattering him and regurgitating his lies.”
