Security Is the Top Goal of Digital Transformation in MENA Nations

Businesses in eight countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region see the digital transformation as bringing “multiple benefits,” with improved security being “the top objective in five of the eight countries surveyed,” GSMA said in a report released Tuesday. Revenue-related goals “are deemed slightly more important” than cutting costs. The survey came as GSMA holds its first Mobile World Congress for the region in Doha, Qatar.

AI and connectivity are the top areas for spending in the MENA region through 2030, GSMA found. MENA businesses undertaking a digital transformation are using generative AI, “but only 39% are currently making advanced use of it, leaving room for growth.” Among the nations, Qatar ranked highest for enterprise use of AI, big data and private 5G networks, the report said. The United Arab Emirates was the leader in “advanced use” of cybersecurity, the cloud, generative AI and edge computing, while Saudi Arabia led in IoT adoption and expectations for fast return on investment.
