Carr Amplifies Trump's Call to Fire Seth Meyers
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr echoed President Donald Trump’s call Saturday for NBC late-night host Seth Meyers to be fired and posted a picture with Trump the next day. Carr posted a screenshot of Trump’s comments 31 minutes later on X. Some FCC watchers saw that as a veiled threat to NBC, in the vein of his podcast comments that preceded NBC host Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension (see 2509260054).
“Brendan Carr once again demonstrates that he has only one principle, and it is unmoored from the First Amendment or the rule of law in general,” said Ari Cohn, lead counsel for tech policy at the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, in response to Carr's post. “Brendan Carr exists to serve Donald Trump. That's it.”
On Sunday, Carr also posted a picture of himself posing with Trump at what appeared to be the president's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. “Great to be with President Trump this weekend,” he wrote. “President Trump’s policies are unleashing a new wave of growth and innovation in communities across the country.”
NBC and the FCC didn’t comment.
