Carr: FCC to Issue More Guidance on Post-Shutdown Filing Deadlines
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said in a post on X Wednesday that the agency will soon be issuing more information on post-shutdown filing deadlines. “Particularly since the shutdown has stretched on for an unprecedented length of time, the agency will be putting additional guidance out at an appropriate time on the reopening process,” Carr said. “FCC staff is going to work in good faith with stakeholders to address the range of questions that will arise and the potential high volume of filings that folks will be seeking to make.”

The current guidance from the FCC shifts all filing deadlines to the next business day after the end of the shutdown. Carr’s post was in response to a question on X from Public Knowledge Senior Vice President Harold Feld, who asked how the agency would handle proceedings that have had comment and reply comment dates pass during the shutdown. “We won’t be requiring that both comment and reply comments be filed on the same day,” Carr said. “There are going to be additional extensions and tranchings. More to come on all this.”
