US, Tire Importer Settle Unpaid Duties Case

The U.S. settled its case, which involved $5.8 million in unpaid duties and penalties against tire importer Katana Racing Inc. on Aug. 29, with more of the details appearing in a Sept. 3 filing. Katana agreed to pay $2.35 million (United States v. Katana Racing, CIT # 19-00125).

Katana had argued that it didn’t owe duties on several entries for which it was importer of record because it had been the victim of identity theft.

In the settlement, Katana agreed to pay $2.35 million in 15 installments. Both parties agreed to waive any further claims arising from the case and have it dismissed with prejudice.
