Cargo Seized Because Carrier Didn’t File Paperwork, Complaint Says
Florida-based Worldwide Nexus Logistics has accused ocean carrier Wallenius Wilhelmsen of losing possession of three boats it was supposed to ship from the U.S. to Chile, according to a complaint filed with the Federal Maritime Commission in late July.

Worldwide Nexus said Wallenius Wilhelmsen was responsible for submitting all required in-transit documentation for the shipment, including a manifest for the boats' passage through Peruvian territory. But the carrier failed to file the Peruvian manifest, leading Peruvian customs authorities to seize the cargo about 18 months ago, the complaint said. The cargo was never released nor delivered to its final destination in Chile.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen initially acknowledged responsibility for the documentation failure and offered compensation for the cargo loss, but it later withdrew its proposal without explanation, Worldwide Nexus said. As a result, Worldwide Nexus asked the FMC to order reparations of $240,902.90 to cover its losses. It also sought any other relief the commission deems appropriate.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen, which is based in Norway, didn’t respond to a request for comment.
