Chinese Chip Firm, Pentagon Discuss Next Steps in Suit on Chinese Military Co. Designation
Chinese company Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment (AMEC) and the U.S. are conferring on how to end the company's suit against its designation as a "Chinese military company" after the Pentagon removed the firm's designation earlier this month (Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. China v. United States, D.D.C. # 24-02357).

The parties filed a joint status report on Dec. 20 at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and said they are discussing next steps in the litigation but "require additional time to do so," due to the holidays and "delays in contacting clients located abroad."
AMEC, a semiconductor equipment maker, filed its suit in August, claiming that the Pentagon had no reasonable basis to make the listing (see 2408160028). The Pentagon then removed the designation in a Federal Register notice, though it didn't give an explanation for the move (see 2412180013).
