Trade Crime Task Force Bill Passes House Committee
A bill to require the Justice Department to establish a trade-crime task force, and to allow for parallel criminal and civil enforcement actions, passed the House Judiciary Committee unanimously. The bill, called the Protecting American Industry and Labor from International Crimes Act, was sponsored by the leaders of the House Select Committee on China and Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, another China committee member.

Select Committee Chairman John Moolenaar, R-Mich., said in a release, "This excellent bipartisan bill will protect U.S. companies and workers by strengthening our country’s efforts to prosecute trade crimes, including fraud, duty evasion, and shipping from other countries to avoid our laws."
The bill's sponsors said they will work on securing funding for the Justice Department to ramp up its prosecutions of trade-related crime.
