ITC Issues Limited Exclusion Order on Refrigerator Water Filtration Devices

The International Trade Commission has determined to issue a limited exclusion order barring entry of certain infringing refrigerator water filtration devices and components thereof (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1290) that are imported by or on behalf of nine U.S. and Chinese companies, it said in a Federal Register notice released April 13.

The investigation followed a December 2021 complaint by LG Electronics, which alleged infringement of three of its patents covering water purifying devices and filter structures that allowed a continuous supply of water (see 2201200017). Over the course of the 15-month investigation, 21 separate named respondents settled or had the complaint dropped, while the commission dropped one of the patents. The nine remaining respondents were found by be in default between June and December 2022.

The ITC also issued cease and desist orders against eight of the nine remaining respondents.
