CBP Activating National Permits in Advance of Broker Modernization Changes Dec. 19

CBP will during the week of Dec. 12 “activate all pending national permits in ACE” created for brokers with only a district permit as it works to transition all those brokers over as part of its customs broker modernization regulatory changes that take effect Dec. 19 (see 2210170071), it said in a CSMS message. “This activity will not have any effect on brokers already holding an active national permit,” CBP said.

During the following week, CBP will cancel all active district permits in ACE, though district permit records still will be available in the ACE Portal under the cancelled permits tab, the agency said. Also during the week of Dec. 19, CBP will “transfer employee lists from local permits to the national permit in the Modernized Portal,” and trade users “will have ability to view the prior employee lists from Legacy Portal local permit screens.”

“Brokers should verify the employee list information transferred to the national permit to ensure it is accurate,” CBP said. “Any employees missing from the list on the national permit record should be setup using the new features in Modernized Portal which includes ‘Add Employee’ to add a single employee or using the ‘Bulk Upload’ feature for multiple employees.”
