ITC Asks for Public Input in Remote Controls and TV Imports

The International Trade Commission is asking for public interest statements in an ongoing Section 337 case involving imported remote controls and televisions (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1263). The case involves allegations that imports of TVs and remote controls infringe on patents held by Roku, which in its April 2021 complaint said that the products from Universal Electronics, Inc., LG, Samsung, Charter, Altice and Wideopenwest infringe on two of its patents for programming universal remote controls (see 2105120022). Roku asked the ITC for a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders banning importation and sale of infringing products.

Public comments should address how the potential remedial orders would affect public health, competitive conditions, the production of competitive articles in the U.S., or American consumers. Comments are due to the ITC by close of business on July 29.
