The International Trade Commission is requesting public interest statements following a Section 337 complaint by Maxell, according to a June 23 notice. The complaint alleges Lenovo and Motorola Mobility unlawfully import mobile electronic devices into the U.S. that infringe six of Maxell's patents concerning color balancing in smartphone cameras, communications between wireless terminals, multimedia user interfaces, phone unlocking software and wireless connectivity features.

Lenvo and Motorola "have actively induced and are continuing to actively induce others ... to infringe" the asserted patents, despite knowledge of alleged infringement, the complaint said. Maxell filed a similar complaint in May, which prompted the ITC to open a similar investigation (see 2205030039).
Maxell asked the ITC to issue a limited exclusion order and a cease and desist order. Comments are due to the ITC by July 5.
