Honeywell Files Another Section 337 Complaint at ITC on Barcode Scanners

Comments are due June 7 in Docket No. 3623 at the International Trade Commission on the public interest ramifications of possible limited exclusion orders and cease and desist orders that Honeywell and its subsidiary seek in a May 23 Section 337 complaint, according to a May 27 Federal Register notice. The complaint alleges that Zebra Technologies and Symbol Technologies have infringed on five patents related to barcode mounting and scanning mechanisms, issued to Hand Held Products between 2014 and 2022. The patents cover image and symbol reading of barcode scanners as well as technology for managing multiple readers through interface nodes.

Honeywell and Hand Held previously filed a similar complaint on May 2, alleging infringement on three separate bar code scanning patents (see 2205050065). That complaint followed the initiation of two ITC investigations against Honeywell and Hand Held based on patent infringement complaints by Zebra and Symbol in March (see 2203140005). Neither side replied to requests for comment.
