ITC Begins Investigation on Plant Extraction Centrifuges

The International Trade Commission instituted an investigation into alleged Section 337 violations on imported centrifuge platforms and falling film evaporators (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1311). The centrifuges combine closed-loop alcohol extraction with mechanical centrifugation, capable of targeting specific plant compounds, isolating the desired separation. The April 28 ITC decision follows a March 29 complaint by Apeks of Johnstown, Ohio, accusing 15 Chinese and American companies of improperly importing centrifuges and film evaporators that infringe on three Apeks patents. Apeks has asked the ITC to issue a general exclusion order or, alternatively, a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders.
