NCBFAA Seeking Closer Engagement Between CBP and Software Industry

CBP should "reengage with the software community" though monthly Trade Support Network meetings, National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America President Amy Magnus said in an Oct. 3 letter to CBP's Office of Trade. The association said would like to discuss a series of concerns with the agency and hoped that the letter would spark an "ongoing dialogue."

CBP should involve software providers before publishing changes through the CBP and Trade Automated Interface Requirements (CATAIR) and provide a policy document to explain changes, the association said. "It is often difficult to divine CBP's intent in CATAIR alone as witnessed in the recent risk-based bonding roll out," Magnus said. The trade group also complained about the recent changes to CSMS (see 1906280036). "It appears to the trade that CBP deprecated some key and needed features of the CSMS messaging system," she said. "Again, this was done without input from the trade." Among the complaints are that archived CSMS messages prior to Sept. 28, 2011, are no longer accessible even though many of those messages remain in effect.
