In one section, SB-927 says, “A person shall not intentionally access or cause access to be made to an electronic system of a motor vehicle to willfully destroy, damage, impair, alter, or gain unauthorized control of the motor vehicle.” A person who violates that section “is guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for life or any term of years.” The bill also includes varying punishments for other hacking crimes. The legislation was referred to the Judiciary Committee in the state Senate.
