Canadian Government Notices for Sept 4

The government of Canada issued the following trade-related notices for Sept. 4, 2012 (Note that some may also be given separate headlines.)

  • Canada-Burma Trade. The Minister of Trade Ed Fast announced Canada will have a fulltime trade commissioner at Canada’s soon to be opened embassy in Burma. (here)
  • Mandatory marine reporting policy. CBSA has issued this notice regarding the Reporting of Exported Goods Regulations which requires marine carriers to report to the CBSA their conveyance prior to departure and cargo within three working days after vessel departure. Phase 1 took effect on September 1, 2012 which is a voluntary transitional period to provide shipping lines sufficient time to map and their systems with the Electronic Commerce Unit. (here)
  • Canadian GDP 2nd quarter results. The real gross domestic product (GDP) rose 0.5% in the second quarter matching the pace of the two previous quarters while Canadian exports slowed to 0.2% in the second quarter, after a previous gain of 1.0% in the previous quarter. (here)
  • Smoked fish and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons monitoring. The CFIA is advising that export certificates requirements for fish products destined for the European Union (EU) are updated to include standards for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. (here)
  • GLATTS brand ground beef and ground veal. The CFIA and Continental Strictly Kosher Meat, Poultry & Delicatessen Products are warning the public not to consume the ground beef and ground veal products that may contaminated with E. Coli. (here)
  • Plant health import requirements. The General Import Requirements for Fresh Temperate Fruits from the World list has been updated and prior to the importation of any genus of fresh temperate fruit from any origin that is not included on this list requires prior approval from the CFIA before the importation is permitted.
