ITC Votes to Institute Patent Investigation Against Apple Devices w/Secure Communications
The International Trade Commission has voted to institute a patent investigation of certain devices with secure communication capabilities, components thereof, and products containing the same (337-TA-818). The products at issue are devices with secure communication applications installed in various electronic devices to create a secure communication environment between two devices when in use by consumers.

The investigation is based on a complaint filed by VirnetX, Inc., of Zephyr Cove, NV, on November 4, 2011. The complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation into the U.S. and sale of certain devices with secure communication capabilities, components thereof, and products containing the same that infringe a patent asserted by the complainant. The complainant requests that the ITC issue an exclusion order and cease and desist orders.
