- Customs Tariff 2012. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has posted its Customs Tariff 2012. (here)
- Softwood lumber exports to U.S. Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) has issued a notice to inform exporters of the Minister’s decision regarding the allocation methodology and provide the eligibility criteria for export allocations of certain Softwood Lumber Products first manufactured in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan and exported to the United States in 2012. - CFIA food import notification. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a notice to all importers and brokers announcing that on February 27, 2012, Phase 8 of its import notification requirements will take effect. This phase includes select commodities under HS Chapter 25, 27 and 28 as identified in Annex 1. Importation of these commodities will have to be notified to CFIA using the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) for electronic release or CBSA may reject the release request. (here)
- Summary reporting for bulk good exports. CBSA has issued Customs Notice 11-023 to announce it is reviewing its export Summary Reporting Program (SRP) to ensure that the program only includes participation from companies who are reporting bulk and/or homogenous goods for which the program was intended. - Border enforcement. CBSA has posted the enforcement highlights for the Southern Ontario Region from April 1 to September 30, 2011 (here) and of the Pigeon River port of entry for October (here).
- Roe Herring. DFAIT is seeking comments by Dec. 31, 2011 on whether Roe Herring should continue to be included on the Export Control List. It was added to the ECL in 1990 under an agreement with the U.S. (here)
- Chemical substances. The Department of the Environment has issued an order amending the Non-domestic Substances List (here) and two Significant New Use notices (here) and (here)
- NAFTA textile/apparel TPL. DFAIT has updated the NAFTA textile and apparel Tariff Preference Level utilization chart. (here)
