2. CPSC to Consider Final Rule Exempting Parts of Children's Electronic Devices from CPSIA Lead Content Limits

On January 6, 2010, the Commissioners of the Consumer Product Safety Commission will consider publication of a final rule exempting certain components of children's electronic devices from the lead content limits of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008. 3. TSA Files With FMC Agreement Amendment on Environmental Initiatives

The Federal Maritime Commission is giving notice that the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (American President Lines, Ltd.; China Shipping Container Lines (Hong Kong) Hapag-Lloyd AG; etc.) have filed Amendment Number 011223-045 in order to authorize members to address issues relating to environmental initiatives and the reduction of air and water pollution. 4. APHIS Final Rule on Hass Avocados from Peru

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has issued a final rule, effective February 3, 2010, to amend the fruits and vegetables regulations to allow the importation of Hass avocados from Peru into the continental U.S. if produced in accordance with a specified systems approach. 5. China's Upcoming Five Year Plan to Include Low-Carbon Initiatives

China's Embassy in the U.S. states that China's next five year plan (2011-2015) will embark the country on the road to a low-carbon economy. It will do this through industrial restructuring and efficiency gains, including new low-carbon cities that avoid suburban sprawl and prioritize public transport. This will be complemented by much higher efficiency in fossil fuel use, a shift to renewable energy, and the use of carbon capture and storage (CCS).
