CBP Posts Agenda for 10th Annual Trade Symposium and Live Webcast

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has posted the agenda for the 2009 Trade Symposium, which will be held December 8-10, 2009 in Washington, DC and via live webcast.

General Sessions

According to CBP, the following general sessions will be held at the Trade Symposium:

Modernization: The Vision Going Forward - review of the original promise of Modernization and ACE as viewed in the 1990s and discussions of the impact of the current economic, trade, technological, security, and safety environment and how that is shaping CBP's vision going forward.

Trade Facilitation Then and Now - discussion of the changes in cargo processing and the trade compliance environment over the last ten years.

Importer Security Filing - discussion of ISF compliance measures and enforcement strategy, ISF program enhancements and updates, and CBP's transition to enforced compliance.

Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement - discussion of challenges to IPR enforcement and trade facilitation and CBP's way forward (which includes a look at the legal framework, operational realities, and business practices).

State of the Border: Discussion with North American Customs Leaders - discussion with the customs leaders of the North American countries about current border initiatives - in what areas has progress been made, what remains to be done, and where does CBP hope to go in the future on its shared border efforts.

Report from the Ports - a CBP team representing rail, ocean, air, and land port perspectives will discuss operations at the port level and what they are seeing.

CBP states that the following breakout sessions will take place during the upcoming Trade Symposium (but not every breakout will occur during each time slot):

CBP Posts Presentations for One General Session, Most Breakout Sessions

CBP has posted the presentations for the general session on Importer Security/10+2 and all but one of the breakout sessions. (CBP does not list a presentation as being available for its Importer Security Filing/10+2 breakout session.)

CBP states that as part of its efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of the Trade Symposium, CBP will not be providing hard copies of the presentations covered in the symposium.
