CAFES generates a modified CBP Form 7512 with a two dimensional bar code (PDF-417) and is used for non automated in-bond initiation at some land border and other locations. CAFES uses the 2D barcodes and scanners to expedite the processing of in-bond documentation.

CAFES Users Should Begin Preparing to Use Alternate Means

All CAFES users should begin preparing to use alternate means of in-bond initiation, such as the automated "QP-WP" application set.

M1 Scheduled to be Operationally Ready Near End of CY 2009

Current forecast is that M1 will be operationally ready for production deployment around the end of calendar 2009 (FY 2010). Further updates will be provided as the M1 project nears production implementation.

(See ITT's Online Archives or 06/19/06 news, 06061905, for BP summary announcing that once e-Manifest became mandatory, CAFES, etc. could continue to be used, but would not satisfy the Trade Act of 2002 requirements.

See ITT's Online Archives or 08/05/05 news, 05080515, for BP summary of an ACE FAQ which stated that ACE would eventually replace or integrate certain trade processing systems, including CAFES.)
