House Energy and Commerce Committee Announces May 18th Markup of Draft Clean Energy Legislation
The House Energy and Commerce Committee has announced that it will meet in an open markup session on Monday, May 18, 2009, and subsequent days as necessary, to consider the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACES) legislation.

(Congressional sources state that ACES is still a discussion draft at this point, and it is not known when it will introduced in the House (and numbered). Committee Chairman Waxman has previously stated that he wants to complete committee consideration of ACES by Memorial Day.)
No Subcommittee Markup, Committee Decides to Move Forward with Full Committee Markup
Although the Energy and Environment Subcommittee was expected to hold its markup of the ACES discussion draft during the week of May 4, 2009, Committee sources state that the subcommittee will not be holding its own markup. Instead, the decision was made to go forward with a full Committee markup beginning May 18, 2009.
ACES Discussion Draft Includes Subsidy and "Import Tax" Provisions
The ACES discussion draft contains provisions regarding:
U.S. competitiveness, including subsidy and import tax provisions
clean fuels, vehicles
appliance energy efficiency
transportation efficiency
global warming pollution reduction program
supplemental pollution reductions
offsets
penalties for fraud, manipulation
additional greenhouse gas standards
exporting clean technology
