CBP CSMS Messages and Web Postings

CBP has posted a memorandum announcing a special import quota of 15,552,728 kg for upland cotton that is provided for in HTS Chapter 99, Subchapter III, U.S. Note 6 and is entered under HTS 9903.52.47. (CBP notes that this quantity is not subject to the tariff rate quotas in Chapter 52 Additional U.S. Notes 5 through 10.)

1. February 19th Opening of 180-Day Special Import Quota for Upland Cotton

The quota period is February 19 - August 17, 2009; to be counted under this quota, the cotton must be imported during this period and purchased not later than May 19, 2009. The opening date was scheduled for February 19, 2009. 2. Updated "ACE on the Road" Event Schedule

CBP has posted an updated version of its "ACE on the Road" event schedule, which includes the following event:

March 25, 2009 - ACE Information Seminar in Sterling, VA. A conference flyerwas also posted.

Topics for this seminar includes the current status of ACE, future releases of ACE, ACE reports (demonstration), etc.

4. CBP Seizes Marijuana Hidden in Shipment of Fans

CBP has issued news release announcing that officers working at the Bridge of the Americas commercial cargo facility in El Paso, Texas seized 1,013 pounds of marijuana. The drugs were concealed in a shipment of fans that was being imported from Mexico. The estimated street value of the seized contraband is $810,400.
