2. Message on Modified EU Products/Countries Subject to 100% Duties, Etc. under WTO Beef Hormone Dispute
CBP has issued a CSMS message on the U.S. Trade Representative announcement that it is modifying the list of European Union products and countries subject to 100% duties in connection with the World Trade Organization's rulings in the EU beef hormone dispute. It is also raising the duty rate of one product to 300%. The USTR's changes are effective with respect to products that are entered or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption on or after March 23, 2009. 4. New DHS Secretary Visits CBP
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano made her first visit to CBP's headquarters on February 6, 2009, meeting with agency officials and employees. The new Homeland Security Secretary commended the agency for a long list of achievements during 2008 and pointed to some new priorities for the coming years. 5. PMS Processing Information
CBP has posted a notice regarding ACE participants increasingly choosing Periodic Monthly Statement (PMS) processing. During the last six months of 2008, CBP collected nearly $7 billion in duties and fees from importers and brokers taking advantage of the PMS process. Collections have been consistently greater than $1 billion per month, and a record $1.28 billion, representing 53% of all duties and fees, was collected in November 2008. The antidumping and countervailing messages CBP issues on behalf of the International Trade Administration are now only available on CBP's Web site at http://addcvd.cbp.gov. AD and CV ABI administrative messages are no longer issued.
