CBP CSMS Messages and Web Postings

CBP has posted an updated version of its fact sheet on the benefits of ACE for sureties. The list of benefits has been updated to state that sureties can run a custom bond report as well as created customized reports and to state that sureties can query a bond by "Bond Number," "Bond Activity Code," or "Bond Status." The additional information section has also been updated to state that additional information is alsoavailable on the ACE training and Reference Guides pages on www.cbp.gov/modernization. 1. CBP Posts Updated Fact Sheet on Surety ACE Benefits

2. Preliminary Injunction on FY 2008 CDSOA Shrimp Distributions

CBP has issued a notice stating that on November 13, 2008, at the request of twelve plaintiffs in case number 08-00394, the Court of International Trade issued a temporary restraining order preventing CBP from making timely distribution of CDSOA funds available in FY 2008 for certain frozen warmwater shrimp and prawn from Ecuador, Brazil, India, Thailand, Vietnam, and China (case numbers A-331-802, A-351-838, A-533-840, A-549-822, A-552-802, and A-570-893).

The temporary restraining order has been converted to a preliminary injunction, and will remain in effect until 5:00 p.m. on April 15, 2009 or until the CIT rules on the merits of the case, whichever date is sooner. Charlotte seizes illegally imported coral. CBP has issued a news release announcing that agriculture specialists at Charlotte Douglas International Airport made three separate seizures of prohibited coral species during the month of January. Marijuana concealed in donkey yard statues seized. CBP has issued a news release announcing that the multi-agency Los Angeles Border Enforcement Security Task Force (LA BEST) recently broke up a marijuana smuggling scheme where marijuana was concealed inside a shipment of some 200 cement yard statues shaped like donkeys. The probe into the smuggling scheme began after CBP officers discovered the marijuana-laden donkeys inside a 40-foot seagoing container following its arrival at the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach. Atlanta seizes illegally imported tortoise meat. CBP has issued a news release announcing that agriculture specialists at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport recently seized tortoise meat and eggs from an international traveler. Texas seizes cocaine in stone shipment.
