Since starting operations almost four years ago, the HME Threat Assessment Program has completed a review of 1,015,660 applications and approved more than 1 million. The Department of Health and Human Services has issued a news release announcing that it opened an HHS/Food and Drug Administration office in Costa Rica on January 7, 2009 to service Latin America. The office in Costa Rica is the first in a series in the region, which will eventually include an HHS/FDA presence in South America and Mexico later in 2009. 4. ICE Arrests Men for Illegally Smuggling Weapons into Mexico
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued a news release announcing that it has arrested two men suspected of participating in an international network that conspires to smuggle into Mexico assault weapons, which are used primarily by law enforcement and the military. Authorities seized the following items: 11 AK-47 7.62mm X 39mm assault rifles, one upper receiver for an AR-15 assault rifle, two military-style bayonets, ballistic body armor, and miscellaneous military equipment. 5. ITC Releases Shifts in U.S. Merchandise Trade 2007
The International Trade Commission has released its annual report entitled "Shifts in U.S. Merchandise Trade 2007."
