2. Senate Committee Comments on DHS Authorization Bill

The Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee posted comments and information on the recently introduced Department of Homeland Security Authorization Bill. 3. House Passed Mercury Export Ban of 2008, Cleared for President

On September 29, 2008, the House of Representatives passed S. 906, a bill to prohibit the sale, distribution, transfer, and export of elemental mercury, clearing the measure for the President. 4. House Committee Reports Energy Security/Climate Change Bill

On September 29, 2008, the House Transportation Committee reported H.R. 2701, a bill to strengthen U.S. energy security and mitigate the effects of climate change by promoting energy efficient transportation and public buildings, creating incentives for the use of alternative fuel vehicles and renewable energy, and ensuring sound water resource and natural disaster preparedness planning, with an amendment (H. 5. FDA Amends Food Labeling Regulation for Osteoporosis Claims

The Food and Drug Administration has issued a final rule, effective January 1, 2010, which amends its labeling regulation authorizing a health claim on the relationship between calcium and a reduced risk of osteoporosis to include Vitamin D so that, in addition to the claim for calcium and osteoporosis, a claim can be made for calcium and Vitamin D and osteoporosis. 6. GAO Letter on Millennium Challenge Corporation

8. Applications for the 2010 IBP Trade Show are Being Accepted

The Commerce Department has announced that applications for the 2010 International Buy Program (IBP) Trade Show are now being accepted until November 7, 2008, which helps participants increase their international sales by recruiting qualified foreign buyers, sales representatives, and business partners to U.S. trade shows each year. 11. EC Welcomes Support for Plans to Combat Counterfeiting/Piracy

The European Commission reports that it has welcomed the support of the Competitiveness Council for plans to combat counterfeiting and piracy more effectively. The Council recently adopted a Resolution on a comprehensive EU anti-counterfeiting plan.
