U.S. Customs and Border Protection has posted to its Unified Business Resumption Messaging Web site messages providing a port status update in the wake of Hurricane Gustav. The most recent message (dated September 2, 2008 at 9:00 a,m. EST) provides details on the situation for the affected ports/terminals. CBP also posted an alert stating that Gustav may affect CBP operations and employees along the Gulf of Mexico. 2. CBP Adds Additional Sessions to its Jamaica ACE Information Seminar
CBP has issued CSMS messages announcing that since the 8:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. ACE Information Seminar that is to be held in Jamaica, New York, has filled, new sessions on September 18, 2008 and on September 17, 2008 have been added. 3. Updated TRQ/TPL "Threshold to Fill" List
CBP has posted an updated version of its TRQ/TPL "threshold to fill" list, a quick reference to monitor tariff rate quotas (TRQs) and tariff preference levels (TPLs) that are approaching the restraint limit or have filled the in-quota (low duty) rate. The list is divided into two sections - quotas that are at least 85% filled and quotas that are closed. CBP has issued a CSMS message containing an attachment of the August 26, 2008 Federal Register notice announcing the NCAP/ACE Test for ESAR A2.2. Chicago CBP hosts conference to enhance agriculture mission. CBP reports that the Chicago CBP field office hosted a conference on August 27, 2008 with officials from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, an important step toward improved communication and information sharing to help strengthen the CBP Agriculture operation. CSMS message on Trade Symposium. CBP has issued a CSMS message containing an attachment of CBP's press release announcing that registration for the Trade Symposium opens on September 2, 2008. New position to strengthen customs service at ports of entry. CBP reports that it has implemented a Passenger Service Manager program, intended to strengthen customer service and increase professionalism at U.S. ports of entry. CBP Passenger Service Managers will be highly visible and responsive to the traveling public, and will be the primary point of contact to address concerns or comments about the inspections process of international travelers.
