CBP CSMS Messages and Web Postings
CBP has issued a CSMS message announcing that as of 8:27 p.m. EDT on August 22, 2008, the problem with ACE users being unable to access ACE and users not being able to submit e-Manifests via ACE was corrected. CBP notes that during that time e-Manifests could be submitted via EDI. 2. CBP Updates Certain "ACE Overview" Fact Sheets on ACE Account Benefits
CBP has posted updated versions of its "ACE Overview" fact sheets that provide information on the benefits associated with the following ACE Secure Data Portal account types:
- Cartmen and Lightermen
- Facilities Operators
- Foreign Trade Zone Operators
- Service Providers
- Sureties
These fact sheets have been updated to include information on how to apply for the subject ACE account and information on Web-based training.

3. Updated "ACE on the Road" Event Schedule
CBP has posted an updated version of its "ACE on the Road" event schedule, which includes the following events:

4. Updated TRQ/TPL "Threshold to Fill" List
CBP has posted an updated version of its TRQ/TPL "threshold to fill" list, a quick reference to monitor tariff rate quotas (TRQs) and tariff preference levels (TPLs) that are approaching the restraint limit or have filled the in-quota (low duty) rate. The list is divided into two sections - quotas that are at least 85% filled and quotas that are closed. 5. Trade in Mexico Reports Having Problems with New Technology Support Number
CBP has issued a CSMS message stating that effective on May 30, 2008, a new toll-free phone number became available to access the CBP Technology Support Center. The new phone number is 1-866-530-4172, then select option 1 and 2. Issues of lesser importance may be reported via email to CBP.Technology.Support@DHS.gov.
CBP states that some trade users in Mexico reported having problems dialing the new toll-free phone number, even if the preceding 001 was used. As an alternative for dialing from Mexico, the phone number 001-883-530-4172 may be used to contact the CBP Technology Support Center. This number is not toll-free, so charges will apply. The page presents links to external environments which provide additional AES information to members of the export community. New director sworn in for CBP Detroit office. CBP reports that Christopher Perry was formally sworn in on August 19, 2008 as CBP director of field operations for the Detroit Field Office; he is responsible for key border security facilities in the state of Michigan. CBP seizes marijuana hidden in furniture shipment. CBP reports that officers screening commercial importations from Mexico entering through the Naco port of entry discovered 1,595 packages of marijuana hidden inside wooden entertainment centers. CBP/USDA confirm Asian Gypsy Moth discovery. CBP issued a news release announcing that U.S. Department of Agriculture officials reported that they have positively identified suspicious egg masses discovered on a maritime vessel by CBP agriculture specialists in Oakland, California as viable Asian Gypsy Moth eggs. Atlanta agriculture specialists on "bee" alert. CBP reports that agriculture specialists at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta are on "bee" alert as they comb shipments and travelers for violations due to recent findings. Joint U.S.-Canadian enrollment center opens in International Falls. CBP has issued a news release announcing the opening of a joint "Trusted Traveler" Enrollment Center downtown in the former information center near the International Falls, MN port of entry. The Enrollment Center is designed to make obtaining a NEXUS border-crossing card easy and convenient for nearby residents on both sides of the border. Expanded NEXUS hours for Pacific Highway. CBP reports that it will expand the NEXUS hours of operation at the Pacific Highway port of entry on State Highway 543. CBP officials are reminding members of the traveling public to expect to see more cars and pedestrians at area border crossings in the coming days as the summer break for thousands of area students comes to an end.
