2. CBP Publishes Costa Rica Raw Sugar TRQ Close Date, Updates Workbook

CBP posted an updated Excel workbook containing historical information and the July 17, 2008 fill date for the tariff rate quota (TRQ) on certain raw sugar classified under HTS Chapter 17, Additional U.S. Note 5 for Costa Rica. (Note that the raw sugar TRQ for the following countries has also been filled: Bolivia, Fiji, Honduras, Peru, Swaziland, Thailand, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.) 3. CBP Updates Entered Quantity in Sugar Blends TRQ Workbook

CBP has updated the entered quantity for the Excel workbook containing historical information and the May 5, 2008 fill date for the TRQ on certain sugar blends classified under HTS Chapter 17, Additional U.S. Note 8 for "other countries except CA/MX." Updated ABI error message dictionary. CBP has posted an updated version of its ABI Error Message Dictionary, a table containing detailed explanations of the error messages that are generated when a filer's transmission is rejected by ABI. CBP notice on APHIS' ePermit system. CBP has issued a notice on the April 2006 launch of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service's electronic permitting system (ePermits), which gives customers the ability to apply for a Plant, Protection, and Quarantine (PPQ) permit, check its status, and view it online. FAST/NCAP barcode specifications, sample. CBP has posted a notice providing instructions for carriers, software providers, and other interested trade community partners on how to prepare a back-up barcode sheet for FAST/NCAP shipments, as well as a sample FAST/NCAP barcode sheet. AQI Partnership Council visits Detroit. CBP reports that on July 16, 2008, the Detroit Field Office conducted port of entry tours for the Agriculture Quarantine Inspection Partnership Council. The AQI Partnership Council is made up of key officials from federal and state agencies who oversee joint agency reviews of CBP and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) agriculture quarantine activities. CBP remembers Ed Kwas. CBP reports that Edward Kwas, 69, a long time U.S. Customs Service employee and manager who had held several of the agency's highest positions died July 9, 2008 at his son's home in Ellicott City, Md., after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Updated UN/EDIFACT Implementation Guide for airlines. CBP posted an updated version of its UN/EDIFACT Implementation Guide (v2.03) for airlines, which includes the latest UN/EDIFACT guidelines that must be followed in order to comply with the APIS Pre-Departure final rule, as well as a guide to the recently published TSA Secure Flight notice of proposed rule making.
