Second Round of Joint C-TPAT Validations Expected in Summer 2008

As part of the U.S.-China C-TPAT joint validation pilot program, CBP expects to complete a second round of joint validations with China Customs in the summer of 20081.

CBP's first round of joint validations has already been performed with China Customs.

(CBP previously reported that during the week of March 17, 2008, CBP began the C-TPAT joint validation pilot program in China with three importers whose supply chains predominately originate in China.)

Four C-TPAT Validations Have Been Performed Under Third-Party Validation Pilot in China

Independent of the joint validation pilot, CBP implemented the Security and Accountability for Every (SAFE) Port Act mandate to create a C-TPAT third party validation pilot in China. Although 30 importers have expressed interest in the third party validation pilot, so far only four companies have followed through and actually had a validation performed by a third party. This pilot will come to an end in June 2008, and CBP will report its findings to Congress, as mandated by the SAFE Port Act.

1CBP sources state that the second round of joint validations may actually come at the end of summer/fall 2008.
