GOES in Use for Southern Border FAST Applications, Northern Border to be Added

GOES was expanded to accept U.S.-Mexico Free and Secure Trade (FAST1) applications and fee payments on April 1, 2008 when CBP discontinued the paper application process for Southern border FAST applicants.

In February, CBP stated that this April 1st expansion would be the first step in a phased migration to full online account management for FAST commercial drivers on both borders.

CBP had also stated that account updates, card replacements, conditional approval notifications, and interview scheduling (which are currently manual), as well as application and fee payment for northern border (U.S./Canada) FAST, and renewals for both borders, are tentatively scheduled for deployment in the second half of calendar year 2008.

Presentation Covers Application and Fee Payment Process for US-Mexico FAST

The GOES presentation is a set of step-by-step instructions on how to register as a new GOES user, complete and submit online U.S.-Mexico FAST applications, and submit the online processing fee payment.

GOES is Also Used for Global Entry, SENTRI & NEXUS Applications, Fees, Etc.

GOES is also used to complete and submit applications and fee payments and schedule enrollment center interviews for the Global Entry2, Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection (SENTRI), and NEXUS "trusted traveler" programs.

1According to CBP, FAST allows U.S./Canada and U.S./Mexico partnering importers an expedited release for qualifying commercial shipments. Under FAST, U.S./Mexico highway carriers benefit from dedicated lanes, reduced number of exams, enhanced supply chain security and safety, the knowledge that they are carrying shipments for a Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) approved importer, etc.

2Global Entry is a "trusted traveler" pilot program that will be operated by CBP to allow for the expedited clearance of pre-approved low-risk air travelers into the U.S. (See ITT's Online Archives or 04/15/08 news, 08041520, for BP summary.)
