CBP CSMS Messages and Web Postings

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued an ACE Portal Accounts CSMS message providing, as an attachment, the February 2008 ACE Trade Account Owner (TAO) monthly update.

1. February 2008 Trade Account Owner Monthly Update

Among other things, the TAO update provides information on the weekly downtime for the ACE Secure Data Portal; the February 2, 2008 ACE update that improved the storage of conveyance records in ACE; the extension of the comment period (to March 18, 2008) for CBP's proposed rule to amend 19 CFR to require Security Filing (SF) information from importers and additional information from carriers (10+2) for vessel (maritime) cargo before it is brought into the U.S.; etc. See future issue of ITT for details on the update.

2. Detroit Opening of Evening Shift Client Rep Office

CBP has issued an ABI and Air, Ocean, Rail, and Truck Manifest CSMS message announcing that on March 3, 2008, CBP opened a new Client Representative office in Detroit. This new office is to be staffed by three Client Representatives during the hours of 2:00 p.m. EST and 12:00 a.m. EST, Monday through Friday. The new office telephone number is (313) 226-7603, extensions 275, 276, or 277.

3. Reminder on M1 Survey for MVOCCs, Rail Carriers

CBP has issued an Ocean and Rail Manifest CSMS message regarding the March 14, 2008 deadline (was extended from March 7, 2008) for Master Vessel Operating Common Carriers (MVOCCs) and rail carriers to take a survey on future Automated Commercial Environment M1 (e-Manifest: Sea and Rail) capabilities. 4. Assistant Commissioner Message on Successes of IPR Enforcement

CBP has posted a message from Assistant Commissioner Daniel Baldwin regarding the successes with intellectual property rights enforcement of integrated circuits and computer networking components, etc.

Among other things, the message addresses the U.S. and European Union's "Operation Infrastructure," the first joint intellectual property rights enforcement operation undertaken by CBP and the European Commission Taxation and Customs Union Directorate General. CBP seizes marijuana, cocaine at checkpoints. CBP has issued a news release announcing that officers in Tucson, AZ recently seized more than 50 pounds of cocaine hidden in a vehicle and over 2,100 pounds of marijuana hidden inside a tractor trailer.
