On November 13, 2007, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1534, the Mercury Export Ban Act of 2007, which would prohibit certain sales, distributions, and transfers of elemental mercury; prohibit the export of elemental mercury; etc. After being passed by the House, H.R. 1534 was referred to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. On November 14, 2007, the House of Representatives passed the conference version of H.R. 3074, the fiscal year 2008 appropriations bill for the Department of Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and related agencies. American Shipper reports that the conference version of H.R. 3074 contains a provision which bans funding for the U.S.-Mexico cross border trucking pilot. 3. Export-Import Bank Board of Directors to Hold Partially Open Meeting
The Export-Import Bank of the U.S. has issued a notice announcing a partially open meeting of the Board of Directors on November 29, 2007 in Washington, DC. The meeting will be open to public participation only for the Ex-Im Bank Sub-Saharan Africa Advisory Committee for 2008 and the Ex-Im Bank Advisory Committee for 2008. 4. FMCSA Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee to Hold Public Meeting
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued a notice announcing that its Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee will hold a public meeting on December 6, 2007 in Washington, DC. The committee provides advice and recommendations to the FMCSA Administrator on motor carrier safety programs and regulations.
