(Application identifiers TI and KI (bond query) were rerouted to the Automated Commercial Environment system for processing with the deployment of ESAR A1.)
Problems with the Reporting of Apartment and Suite Number in Line 1
According to CBP, one issue that needs to be addressed involves a change in the way apartment numbers, suite numbers, etc. are reported by the trade in the 5106 message.
Current instructions are for the trade to report apartment or suite numbers in line one of the mailing address - T1 record positions 48-79. This has caused some problems resulting in either rejection for invalid addresses, or with the way ACE stores the apartment or suite number and writes it back to the Automated Commercial System (ACS).
CBP Requests Trade Use Line 2 and Certain Abbreviations
CBP is requesting that the trade begin sending apartment numbers and suite numbers in line two of the mailing address - T2 record positions 15-46 of the 5106 message.
Additionally, CBP is requesting that the following abbreviations be used: "apt" for apartment and "ste" for suite.
When Fix is Implemented, Use Line 1 or 2, Continue Using Abbreviations
CBP notes that when the fix for this problem is moved into production, ACE will accept apartment numbers or suite numbers transmitted in either (a) line one of the mailing address, T1 record, or (b) in line two of the mailing address, T2 record.
However, even after the fix is moved into production, CBP sources state that the trade is requested to continue using the above-specified abbreviations for apartment and suite.
