CBP Corrects Its FAQ on What Can/Cannot be Done with CBP Form 5106 via the ACE Portal

CBP has recently issued a third ABI message providing correct answers to two questions on non-resident importers included in the FAQ.

The FAQ states the following (reflects corrections):

U.S. Importers

Brokers can currently use the ACE portal to create a new 5106; however, brokers cannot currently use the portal to re-activate a 5106.

Brokers can only edit/change/update a 5106 via the portal if the broker has access to the importer's account.

Brokers can use the Automated Broker Interface to edit/change/update a 5106.

Non-Resident Importers

Brokers cannot currently use the ACE portal to request and receive a CBP assigned number; also, brokers cannot use the portal to re-activate a CBP assigned number.

Brokers cannot use the portal to edit/change/update a CBP assigned number.

Brokers cannot use ABI to re-activate or edit/change/update a CBP assigned number.

1The second ABI administrative message was a correction to the first ABI message. The third message retracts the corrections made in the second ABI message.
