CBP Administrative Messages, Web Postings, Etc.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued an ABI administrative message announcing that CBP has been advised that some of the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) account revenue reports are incorrectly showing November 26, 2007 as the payment due date for the November Periodic Monthly Statement (PMS).

1. Some ACE Reports Show Wrong PMS Due Date of November 26th

CBP states that the correct payment due date for the November PMS is November 23, 2007.

2. Tecate Port of Entry Still Closed Due to Wildfires

CBP has updated its Unified Business Resumption Messaging (UBRM) Web site by adding a message entitled, "Day 3: Message Two: Southern Border Highway - Tecate Port of Entry, California," which states that as of October 24, 2007, 11:30 am EST, the Tecata Port of Entry is still 100% closed due to wildfires.

CBP suggests the trade use Otay Mesa as the alternative port of entry.

3. Certain San Diego County FDA Offices Were Closed on Oct 23rd, Reopened on the 24th

CBP issued an ABI administrative message announcing that the Food and Drug Administration temporarily closed offices on October 23, 2007 due to the California wildfires. According to FDA sources contacted by phone, these offices reopened on October 24th.

(In its ABI message, CBP stated that due to the numerous fires spreading through San Diego County, the FDA offices in the commercial cargo port of Otay Mesa and the office located one block away from the port were closed on October 23rd and could be closed for additional days. The FDA review of entry data was being remotely performed by other FDA staff for entries filed at the following ports: San Diego (2501), Tecate (2505), and Otay Mesa (2506).

CBP stated that FDA will provide appropriate updates to the status of its coverage of entries received for these ports, including information regarding the return to normal entry review processing.)

CBP has posted a message stating that instructor-led ACE training on the creation and activation of Foreign Trade Zone sites in ACE was provided by the Office of Information Technology prior to the implementation of Entry Summary, Accounts, and Revenue (ESAR) A1. CBP seizes marijuana hidden in commercial shipment of tile. CBP has issued a press release announcing that officers at the Laredo port of entry stopped a narcotics smuggling attempt and prevented 800 pounds of marijuana valued at $800,000 and concealed in a commercial truck from making its way through the port and into the U.S. (Press release, dated 10/22/07, available at http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/newsroom/news_releases/10222007_4.xml(

Temporary extension of SENTRI lane hours at Calxico port. According to a CBP press release, the port of Calexico, CA will temporarily extend the hours of operation of lanes dedicated to SENTRI members. The close of operation at the downtown Calexico port of entry will be midnight (no longer 10:00 pm) on Sunday evenings through November 18, 2007.
