CBP Posts Security Notice for C-TPAT Sea Carriers Regarding U.S.-Bound Empty Containers
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has posted to its Web site a security notice to Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism partners regarding U.S.-bound empty containers.

CBP states that from time-to-time the C-TPAT program takes the opportunity to remind its members of certain mandatory criteria to ensure the integrity of the global supply chain and improve overall security awareness.
CBP has posted the message to call to the attention of all C-TPAT partners, and sea carriers in particular, the criteria regarding empty containers bound for the U.S.
Minimum Security Criteria Require Inspection of U.S.-Bound Empty Containers
According to CBP, the minimum security criteria states that "sea carriers must visually inspect all U.S.-bound empty containers, to include the interior of the container, at the foreign port of lading1."
CBP asks that all companies be in full compliance with this and all other C-TPAT minimum security criteria for sea carriers.
CBP states that questions should be directed to the assigned Supply Chain Security Specialist.
