Currently, ACE allows the widely used secure socket layer (SSL) protocol in addition to TLS.)
ACE Portal Users Must Make Changes by September 14 for Continued Access
To comply with government regulations, all ACE portal users are being notified that CBP will be phasing out SSL. In order to be able to continue using the ACE portal, users will be required to make a simple settings change to their Internet Explorer Web browser settings. From June to September 13, 2007, both the current security setting and the changes will allow access to the ACE portal. However, starting September 14, 2007 the changes will be required to be in place on computers to allow proper access to the ACE portal.
CBP Provides Instructions on How to Make Necessary Internet Explorer Changes
In its message, CBP states that users of the ACE portal must make certain their Internet browser is Internet Explorer 6.0.2 or higher. To check the installed version, open the browser and click on Help. Then click on About Internet Explorer which is the last choice, in the dropdown. Verify the version number on the first line of the next screen seen (i.e., 6.0 or greater). Then to turn on TLS while Internet Explorer is open, click on Tools and select Internet Options. In the next pop up window, select the Advanced tab and scroll down to the very bottom and check the Use TLS 1.0 box. Save the changes. When this is completed, the security setting has been successfully upgraded to TLS.
