1. New Zealand May Become First to Reach "Mutual Recognition" Status with U.S. for C-TPAT

2. All U.S.-Romania Bilateral Sanitary-Veterinary Certificates Terminated January 1, 2007

The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) has issued an attach report stating that Romania has fully transposed into its national legislation the entire European Union (EU) sanitary and veterinary aquis, and all sanitary-veterinary certificates concluded in the past between Romania and the U.S. on a bilateral basis will terminate on Romania's EU accession date, January 1, 2007. 3. Canadian Organic Regulations Official, Two-Year Implementation Period (Except for Voluntary Organic Logo)

The FAS has issued an attach report stating that the Canadian Organic Regulations became official on December 21, 2006, and that with the exception of the voluntary use of a Canadian organic logo, which takes effect immediately, the implementation of Canadian organic regulations will occur over a two-year transition period. 4. ASEAN Regional Forum to Conduct Workshop on Further Implementation of UNSCR 1540

The State Department has issued a press release announcing that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum (ARF) will conduct a workshop to further implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1540 (non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction). The workshop will be co-hosted by the U.S., Singapore, and Canada, and will be held in San Francisco from February 13-15, 2007. 5. AMS Corrects Amendment to the Soybean Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Order

The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has issued a notice announcing that it is correcting a November 1995 final rule that made technical amendments to the Soybean Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Order. AMS states that it has found that 7 CFR 1220.228(a)(1)(v)(A), pertaining to producer refunds, was mistakenly removed from the Order as part of the final rule. AMS' notice corrects the Order by adding the language that previously appeared in 7 CFR 1220.228(a)(1)(v)(A).
