According to CBP, the following topics will be discussed at the upcoming Trade Symposium:

Trade Security - Evolution/Transformation. The discussion will cover the evolution and transformation of the supply chain through technological enhancements, regulatory and legislative activities, inter-agency partnerships, global initiatives, and business adaptations.

ACE/ITDS. CBP states that the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) will provide an accounts-based approach to security and all other CBP cargo functions. Additional ACE capabilities are being fielded daily, and major functionality will be delivered over the next two years. In addition, this panel will explain how the SAFE Port Act revitalizes the International Trade Data System (ITDS).

Office of International Trade. CBP states that creation of the new Office of International Trade is intended to provide a streamlined approach to trade compliance and facilitation as well as improve resource allocation to manage priority trade issues.

Business Continuity - Trade Resumption. CBP explains that one of the key lessons of September 11th was the need for a well-planned strategy to resume normal operations following a terrorist or other incident that disrupts the international logistics system. CBP states that extensive work has been done on plans to implement national strategies to ensure the impact of any incident is minimal. CBP notes that communications between the public and private sectors is vital to the success of these plans.

Open Forum with CBP Senior Managers and the Commercial Operations Advisory Committee (COAC). CBP states that this forum provides an opportunity for full participation and interaction with senior managers and technical experts in the exhibition booths.

Priority Trade Issues. Representatives of the trade community will discuss how they and the Office of International Trade can best partner to ensure optimal facilitation of legitimate goods while protecting American economic interests by focusing on priority trade concerns. There will also be a discussion with CBP managers about real time day-to-day issues facing the trade community.
